Rick has had a distinguished career most recently serving 20 years as Ventas’s Executive Vice President, Chief Administrative Officer, General Counsel and Ethics and Compliance Officer before his retirement in March 2020.

 

During his tenure at Ventas, Rick led all Ventas corporate M&A transactions, growing the company from $200M in value to over $40B. Select REIT M&A transactions included NHP, Cogdell Spencer and HCT as well as multiple large, medium and small real estate asset purchases. Rick spearheaded Ventas’s entry into the Canadian independent living market with the C$2.5B Le Groupe Maurice purchase and led the multibillion-dollar nursing home spin-off in 2017, the $3B-plus purchase of Atria Senior Living real estate and subsequent interest in its manager and Lillibridge, Ventas’s medical office building platform. Rick also led the legal work of Ventas’s purchase of Wexford’s real estate as well as structuring its development agreement for all research and innovation buildings. With Rick’s legal expertise, Ventas grew from just a few assets to over 1,200 assets in three countries. Rick also oversaw all corporate equity and debt financings for Ventas.

 

Rick serves on the University of Louisville Healthcare Board of Directors and the Centre College Board of Trustees. He is admitted to the bar in Kentucky and is a member of NAREIT. He received his undergraduate degree from Centre College and his J.D. from the University of Kentucky College of Law.
